What You Need To Know

Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies surged after President Trump announced a U.S. Crypto Reserve including Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP, Solana, and Cardano. Trump said the move would counter “corrupt attacks” on crypto and make the U.S. the Crypto Capital of the World. XRP jumped 33%, Solana’s token rose 25%, and Cardano soared over 60%. Bitcoin climbed 10% to $94,000 after hitting a three-month low, while Ethereum gained 13%. Investors now await Friday’s White House Crypto Summit for more details. The reserve plan marks a shift from Trump’s earlier proposal of a stockpile, raising debate over government involvement in crypto.
Nvidia beat Wall Street expectations in Q4, posting $39.33 billion in revenue (vs. $38.05 billion expected) and 89 cents per share (vs. 84 cents expected). The company also gave strong guidance, forecasting $43 billion in Q1 revenue, a 65% YoY increase. AI-driven demand continues to fuel growth, though at a slower pace than last year. Net income soared to $22.09 billion, while gross margins dipped slightly due to higher costs for new data center chips. Investors are now watching how quickly Nvidia can roll out its next-gen Blackwell AI processors in 2025.
President Trump confirmed that 25% tariffs on Mexico and Canada will take effect on March 4, along with an additional 10% tariff on China, bringing total duties on Chinese imports to 20%. The announcement, made on Truth Social, cited concerns over drug trafficking from U.S. neighbors.
Amazon unveiled Alexa+, a revamped AI-powered assistant that will now require a subscription. Launching next month, the service costs $19.99/month but is free for Prime members. The upgrade adds generative AI, enabling Alexa to book reservations, order groceries, suggest recipes, and even quiz users on study guides. Amazon’s Panos Panay called it a game-changer in AI, emphasizing its ability to learn user habits and take proactive actions. This marks the first time Amazon is charging for Alexa, signaling a shift toward monetizing its voice assistant technology.

TIP
Pricing Power

A company’s ability to raise prices without losing customers is one of the strongest signs of a great investment. Businesses with strong pricing power can protect profit margins, especially during inflationary periods. Companies like Apple and Nike maintain loyal customer bases that continue to pay premium prices, while others, like utilities or healthcare providers, have built-in demand that allows them to pass on costs.
On the other hand, companies in highly competitive industries with little differentiation often struggle to raise prices without losing market share. When evaluating a stock, look for businesses with strong brands, unique products, or essential services—those with pricing power tend to outperform over the long run

TERM
Share Buyback

A share buyback, or stock repurchase, happens when a company buys back its own shares from the market, reducing the number of shares available to investors. This can increase earnings per share (EPS) and signal confidence from management. For example, if a company with 100 million shares earns $500 million in net income, its EPS is $5. If it repurchases 10 million shares, the new EPS jumps to $5.56 ($500M Ă· 90M shares), making the stock potentially more attractive. Investors monitor buybacks as they can indicate a company sees its stock as undervalued or lacks better growth opportunities.
See you on Wednesday!
